City of Katy Returns to Stage 2 Drought Contingency Plan

(KATY) - Effective Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 12:01 a.m. the City of Katy Returns to Stage 2 of the Drought Contingency Plan. The goal for water use reduction under Stage 2, Moderate, is a 10 percent reduction of water use compared to Baseline Historical Monthly Average Water Usage as calculated by the city, based on the water usage data over the previous 12-month period.

Residents are asked to only water up to three days per week between 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. based on the last digit of your address.

The watering schedule is based on the last digit of your address:

  • Even Number - Monday, Wednesday, Saturday

  • Odd Number - Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday

  • Commercial/HOAs - Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

Also, under Stage 2, Moderate, the following will be implemented:

  • Continue or initiate any actions available under Stage 1.

  • Initiate engineering studies to evaluate alternatives should conditions worsen.

  • Further accelerate public education efforts on ways to reduce water use.

  • Halt nonessential city government water use, including street cleaning, vehicle washing, and operation of ornamental fountains.

  • Encourage the public to wait until the current drought or emergency situation has passed before establishing new landscaping.

  • Ask the public to reduce watering and/or irrigate landscape to three (3) times a week, and water between 12am to 8am and 8pm to 11:59 p.m.

  • Limit hydrant flushing (except for water system repairs), flushing gutters, or allowing water to run or accumulate in any street.

  • Encourage reduction of water use for power washing of buildings, sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts, or other hard-surfaced areas.
