(FORT BEND ISD) – First graders at Colony Bend Elementary School are making holiday cards and craft bags for hospitalized children at Texas Children’s Hospital in alignment with the school’s theme this year, “CBE has a Heart for Others.” Hospitalized children will receive a handmade card and a bag that contains materials they can use to create their own holiday crafts. Each grade level at Colony Bend has been tasked with developing a service project to “benefit the greater community.”
Fourth graders recently participated in "Undies for Everyone" where students assembled underwear packs for 600 children living in poverty of crisis.
“It was amazing to see them come together as an entire grade level,” Colony Bend Elementary Assistant Principal Bradley Hooper said.
Other grade levels are planning similar projects. Pre-K and second grade students are making cards to deliver to local nursing homes. Kindergartener’s project will benefit Lunches of Love, a local non-profit organization that provides free sack lunches for children during extended school holidays and weekend. Third graders’ “Project Linus” will provide handmade blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. And, fifth graders will collect socks to donate to Soldier’s Angles, a non-profit organization that supports service members and veterans.
