(FORT BEND ISD)– Dulles High School’s Academic Decathlon team finished third in the 2023 United States Academic Decathlon National Championship, held last month in Frisco.
The team took home 30 individual medals and several individual awards, as it competed among the nation’s top teams. This is the fourth time Dulles has competed in the national competition.
Individually, three Dulles students earned national honors in their respective category.
Nora Gabriel earned a Gold Medal, or first place, in the Scholastic category, the first time a student from Texas has earned this honor since 2016. Jasmine Chou earned a Silver Medal in the Honors category and Ashley Dao earned a Bronze Medal in the Scholastic category.
Ashley Dao, Nora Gabriel and Audrey Hanan earned the Communication Award, given to the best Scholastic students in the combined events of Speech, Interview and Essay.
Emily Christman won the Frank Wurtzel Award, given to the best Varsity student in the combined events of Literature, Speech and Essay.

The Academic Decathlon is a 10-event competition comprised of: Language/Literature; Math; Science; Social Science; Art; Music; Economics; Essay; Interview; and Speech. Each year’s competition focuses on a single subject.
