(FORT BEND ISD) – Elkins High School student Temitope Samuel has been named a National Youth Correspondent to the 2023 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University, to be held July 9-14.
Temitope hopes to pursue a career in politics, as a press secretary and congressional chief of staff. She sees journalism as a way to learn more about national politics.
“I know that journalism would give me great exposure to further my understanding in politics,” Temitope said.
In addition to her media experience, Temitope is a third-year cadet in Elkin’s Air Force JROTC unit, part of the Board Leadership 101 cohort, and an officer in the African Students Association, National Honor Society and Student Council. She was also a speaker at the last Student Voices summit.
Temitope will join a select group of students from across the nation, chosen for their academic accomplishments and demonstrated interest in journalism and media excellence. At the annual conference, youth correspondents participate in an intensive study of journalism and media through hands-on, experiential learning and learn from practicing and veteran journalists and executives.
“At the conference, I look forward to not only learning journalism and getting to experience journalism as it is in Washington, D.C., but I hope to get connections and build life-long friendships with people that have the same common goal as I do,” Temitope said.
