(FORT BEND ISD) – The Texas Association for Bilingual Education has named Fort Bend ISD teacher Dilma Calles its 2023 Elementary Bilingual Teacher of the Year.
This recognition is given annually to an “exceptional bilingual teacher dedicated to meeting the needs of emergent bilingual students while showing outstanding leadership attributes necessary to represent all bilingual teachers in Texas.”
“I am honored to receive this award and grateful to have the opportunity to impact the lives of bilingual students,” Calles said. “I don’t teach for the accolades, but it's rewarding to be recognized for doing what I love.”
Calles currently serves as a first-grade bilingual teacher at Mission West Elementary and was also named the Suburban Houston Association of Bilingual Educators Teacher of the Year for the 2022-23 school year.
TABE will honor Calles at its 51st annual conference and Teacher of the Year ceremony on October 20th at the McAllen Convention Center. She will go on to represent TABE and the bilingual teachers of Texas in the National Association for Bilingual Education Teacher of the Year competition.
