FBISD’s “Toss it Your Way” Student Contest Celebrates National Nutrition Month

(FORT BEND ISD) – Fort Bend ISD joins the nation in observing National Nutrition Month, celebrated annually in March. This year’s theme is “Fuel for the Future.”

National Nutrition Month, sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, aims to educate American families on the importance of eating healthy and incorporating more physical activity into the day.

Students are encouraged to participate in this month’s contest, “Toss it Your Way.” They can submit a 30-second video or a step-by-step photograph guide of them topping a pizza. Each pizza must start with a traditional tomato sauce and cheese. The first-place winner will have their pizza featured on next year’s lunch menu. Submissions can be made online here or by send them to cndsocial@fortbendisd.com. The deadline is March 20.

To celebrate this year’s National Nutrition Month, FBISD’s Child Nutrition Month developed a toolkit for schools to share the message of healthy eating with students and families. The toolkit includes graphics, weekly messages, activities and recipes for families to try.

In March, FBISD will also observe National School Breakfast Week (NSBW), March 6-10, which is dedicated to promoting the benefits of having a healthy breakfast. Research continues to show that a healthy breakfast positively impacts a student’s academic performance. This year’s theme is “Get Your Day in Gear with a Healthy School Breakfast.”
