(FULSHEAR) – The Fulshear Police Department is warning residents about a misleading mailer sent out by an organization called “Citizens Behind the Badge” that falsely claims to be raising donations for the Fulshear Police Department.
Fulshear police said the department is not associated with the organization and no funds raised by them impact the department in any way.
“While we believe they may be supporting law enforcement and their noble efforts, it's essential to exercise caution when making donations online or by mail (in this case) and verify exactly where your donation will be going,” officials said in a statement. “We encourage you to be vigilant and responsible when it comes to making charitable donations online. If you have any doubts about a specific donation request or organization, please feel free to reach out to your local authorities or a consumer protection agency for guidance. Remember that there are many legitimate and deserving causes in need of support, and by staying informed, you can make a positive impact on the causes you care about.”
According to Charity Navigator, Citizens Behind the Badge is not registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
