Katy Public Works BBQ Cook-Off Team Wins First in Annual BBQ Cook-Off

(KATY) – The City of Katy Public Works BBQ Cook-Off team, Katy Monster Smokers, has placed first in the rib category and the brisket category in the American Public Works Association Southeast Texas Chapter Annual BBQ Cook-off. They also brought home the overall Traveling Grand Champions Trophy. The team competed against local public works departments from all over the Houston area.


The team is comprised of Jason Rivera (director of public works), Andrew Shipes (streets), Billie Oppenlander (parks), Anthony Benavides (streets), Toby Pattenaude (street superintendent), Byron Hebert (city administrator), Steve Riley (fleet superintendent), Dillon Leppert (fleet assistant superintendent), Richie Kainer (parks superintendent) and John McGee (streets).
