Learn About Native Americans in Texas at George Library Program

(RICHMOND) - In recognition of National Native American Heritage Month in November, Fort Bend County Libraries will present a program on “Native Americans of Texas” on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 3 p.m., in the Meeting Room at George Memorial Library, 1001 Golfview in Richmond.

Dr. Nicholas Cox, chairman of the History Department at Houston Community College, will talk about the history of Native Americans in Texas, with an emphasis on the 19th-century experiences of the Cherokee and Comanche tribes, as well as other Native American groups in the region.


Dr. Cox received his doctorate degree in U.S. History from the University of Houston. In addition to his work at Houston Community College, Dr. Cox has taught at the Bronx Academy of Letters in New York City, the University of Houston, and UH-Victoria. He is a member of the American Historical Association and the Texas History Association.
