Morton Ranch Schools Bring Communities Together for Solar Eclipse Watch Party

(KATY ISD) - On Saturday, Oct. 14, students, staff and families from Morton Ranch Elementary, Junior High and High School came together for a fun and educational Solar Eclipse Watch Party at Morton Rach High School’s Maverick Stadium.

“We are so excited to welcome these communities for the first parent engagement event of the school year,” said Dr. Julie Hinson, Principal of Morton Ranch High School. “We want to thank the district for supporting the event so our students, staff and families can come together to learn, have fun and experience this rare occasion.”

This memorable event, organized by the schools with the support of Katy ISD, proved to be a blend of amusement and education. It showcased student-led activities such as face painting, which was run by the Art Honor Society students, and the challenge of building a bottle rocket, which was facilitated by members of the Science Honor Society.

The Solar Eclipse Watch Party had an impressive turnout and welcomed approximately 250 people. Safety was of the utmost importance, as attendees were provided with eclipse-safe glasses and water to ensure an enjoyable experience. As a community event, all students were accompanied by a parent or guardian to safely enjoy the festivities and special memories were created during this rare marvel of science.
