(FORT BEND COUNTY) - The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to report fraudsters who call claiming that the recipient has won a prize. They then tell the target that they must pay money to claim the prize.
“If you have to pay, it’s not a prize,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
People who receive these calls, or any scam solicitations, should call to their local law enforcement agency or call the FBCSO Dispatch at 281-341-4665 or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at 1-877-382-4357 or ftc.gov/complaint.
“Your report just might protect other citizens and help identify and stop the imposters,” said Sheriff’s Office representatives. “The FTC can detect fraud patterns from the information collected and share that data with law enforcement.”
