(SUGAR LAND) – Following the arrest of three jugging suspects yesterday, Feb. 22, Sugar Land police are offering residents tips on how to avoid becoming a victim. A jugging is when a thief waits at a bank, check-cashing store or ATM for someone to withdraw money. The thief then follows the customer to another location and either robs the person of their cash or breaks into their vehicle and takes the cash left inside.
Police offer these tips to avoid becoming a victim:
When making a withdrawal, don’t carry the cash or the bank envelope out of the bank. Put it away before exiting the bank. Thieves are watching!
Pay attention to your surroundings. If you notice someone following you, call 911. Don’t go home.
Vary your routine. If you own a small business, don’t make your deposits or withdrawal on a set schedule. Thieves are watching.
Don’t leave cash in your vehicle. Thieves are watching.
Use wire transfers when possible.
